Case and titling. Traditional “title” case has been modified style-wise in
print and on the Web. Pick a case convention and stick to it.
Punctuation. Determine a punctuation style, particularly in terms of
hyperlinks and list items. Typically, placing punctuation after
hyperlinks is advisable. Using periods after list items is a debated
topic, but again, choose what works in your best judgment, and then
stick with it.
Avoid additional spaces in hyperlinks. This will help keep links
contained to the text that’s supposed to be linked, rather than additional
space.
Determine which special characters are to be used. Certain grammatical
elements, such as quotes, symbols, hyphens, em dashes, and so forth
require special characters. Also referred to as character entities, these
characters sometimes have browser support problems. Figuring out
what you’re going to use and not use ahead of time will help anyone
working with copy be more efficient in applying the site’s style standards.
