Understanding Wireframing

In his book Information Anxiety2, Richard Saul Wurman (mentioned earlier as the
man who coined the term IA and is considered its “father by many) claims that
there are two parts to a given problem. He defines these as being the “what and
the “how.
Wireframing addresses the what portion rather than the how. In the process of wireframing,
the sites content and hierarchies are “framedin a series of documents
(the wireframes) that actually reflect the physical makeup of your documents. Bear
in mind that these documents are far more focused on the structural than the visual,
and for good reason. This is the step that comes before prototyping the site.
Youre not looking for information such as which colors will be used for the navigation
links (thats considered a “how).Youre looking for what the navigation
consists of (thats a “what).
