Perhaps the most immediately impressive advantage is
just how lightweight pages become. Lighter pages mean decreases in bandwidth
(reducing hosting costs) and web page loading time (increasing usability).
An equivalent “old-school” page made with tables for layout and font
tags for text decoration is a relatively fat load of markup. Without the need
for such bulky code or unnecessary graphics (such as transparent “spacer”
images and graphical text that could be replicated with CSS), it isn’t uncommon
to produce pages that are as much as 60 or 70 percent lighter.
