HotBot Lets You Meta-Search Other Search Engines

Okay, if it’s right in front of you on the home page, it’s not that secret of a secret,
but it’s still a pretty cool thing. HotBot is unique among the major search sites in
that it lets you search four major search engines directly from its home page.
Depending on the option you select, you can direct your HotBot searches to any
of the following search engines:

HotBot (using the Inktomi engine)
Lycos
Google
Ask Jeeves
So if you want to search the HotBot index, select HotBot, enter your query, and
click the Search button. If you want to search Google, select Google instead.
Same with Lycos and Ask Jeeves.
The results of your query are displayed on a normal search results page. Each
search results page displays results from the selected search engine only—not
from all the search engines combined. If you want to see the results from
another search engine, you have to select that engine from the top of the search
results page and then press the Search button to initiate a new search.
HotBot’s meta-search functionality is cool, even if it does introduce a level of
complexity to the site’s operations. That’s because the instructions for using
each of the four search engines remain separate from each other. You have to
follow Google’s instructions to do a Google search, and Ask Jeeves’ instructions
to do an Ask Jeeves search, and so on.
